Covenant Way Church: What's In A Name?

Covenant

The word "covenant" is a legal term denoting a formal and legally binding declaration of benefits to be given by one party to another, with or without conditions attached.

We at Covenant Way Church are in a covenant relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

This covenant is also the governing principle for our relationship with other Christians.

1 John 4:10-12 This is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the payment for our sins.  Dear friends, if this is the way God loved us, we must also love each other.

The foundation for this relationship is built upon the Bible's definition of love. (i.e. unconditional love)

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude.  It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never ends.

Way

We at Covenant Way aspire to model this covenant by the Way we live our daily lives.  It is our hope to be examples of Jesus' love and be known (as were the first Christians) as people of the Way.

Acts 9:1-2 Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

The great apostle Paul (Saul) was so impacted by the people of the Way that after his conversion to becoming a follower of Jesus, he was transformed from their greatest enemy to their greatest champion.

Acts 19:8-10 And he (Paul) went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading concerning the things of the kingdom of God. But when some were hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the way before the multitude, he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus.

Church

Covenant Way Church is a public assembly (Church) of followers of Jesus Christ that testify of His love (Covenant) for us by the way we live our lives towards others (the Way)
